Take home bounty

We celebrated father's day a week late this year, due to us being away the previous weekend. We had lunch with my in-laws. They have a vegie patch and small orchard with chooks. I like to explore their garden and talk to them about their plants. We always get produce to bring home too. We receive eggs every week which is so lovely. Yesterday we were given a cauliflower cut fresh from the plant, it was still warm from the sun, a nice bunch of silverbeet and some ricotta from the factory. I will make a meal from these this week. Hubby picked a fennel bulb for himself. He likes to eat it raw and polished it off last night. I also picked a bunch of broccoli leaves for our guinea pigs as they like those.

My in-laws have a large oregano patch growing, so we dug some up and popped it in a pot. I think I will keep it in a pot as theirs was spreading across the garden. They dry it out each year to store for cooking, it really is nice.

Lastly, they gave us an avocado. This had self seeded in their vegie patch and they did not want it. They had grown own previously which had never given them fruit, so they did not wish to keep this one. We shall see how it goes at our place. Their vegie patch was full of self seeded fruit trees. apricots, nectarines and plums. All tiny shoots poking up through the soil. They won't keep them as they have no more room and they are growing where the vegetables should be. We had a lovely afternoon in the sun. Hope you had a nice weekend too.
