Come, let me show you around our garden

I thought I would start off with some before photos. This is what our garden looked like the day we moved in last November. This is the Western side of the house. Home to a Cordyline Stricta. To the left of the picture is a potato vine growing up the fence. It had been cut right back by the previous owners. The rest of this area is pretty much rocks and dirt. The path leads down from our carport and is a thoroughfare for water when it rains. The first of our 3 rain water tanks is located here.

Walking down through the gates you come to a small courtyard near our lounge room window. A Plumbago is located here amongst other things.

This is the same courtyard but looking away from the house. A bit of a jungle under the gum tree here. There is a Hellebore, a Chinese Lantern and a Fuschia to name a few of the plants. This area receives lots of shade.

A Pittosporum growing in a tree stump!

Just a bit further down and to the left of our patio and still under the gum tree, is a beautiful, large Daphne, a Daisy and some Japanese Wind Flowers. To the right of this photo is where the pond is located. Can you see the neighbour's washing in the back? I'm working at blocking that view.

The previous owners left this raised bed behind on the patio. Most of the plants had gone to seed. It contained Parsley, Rainbow Chard, Lemon Balm, Strawberries and weeds.

We added some pots of veges we brought with us.

To the Eastern side of the patio is our largest tank. A sad looking Passionfruit vine is living here. A Pittosporum is growing under another gumtree. The raised bed along the fence contains a Banksia Rose and two other climbing roses. You can also see a Euphorbia growing near the pump.

A closer look at the Passionfruit and the rock wall it grows on.

Nothing here was growing very well. Maybe the Gumtree is getting all the nutrients, or maybe this dirt just needs a good feed.

This Pittosporum is hiding a very mighty Gumtree.
Lavender and a few potted Geraniums sat at its base.

A closer view.

The view down the Eastern side of the property. You can just see the Pittosporum in the right side of this picture. This garden contained a mixture of plants from a Rose, to Lavender and a Bush Fuschia.

A few closer views of the plants that were located here.

This garden is located in the centre of our yard and right in front of the patio. This garden has changed a lot since we moved in, as you will see in coming posts.

I do not recall what this plant even was. We removed it not long after arriving as we wanted to place a vegie patch here. The Grevillea  near the back fence has been moved and we have trimmed this area back a lot.

Some photos taken just after clearing this area.

The pile of stuff we removed.

I adore this Salvia. It is in bloom nearly all year. You can eat the flowers and the guinea pigs enjoy the whole plant.

Just a bit further down from the Salvia is this Olive. Our clothes line is located here and just behind the Pandorea vine is a garden shed.

Looking across the other direction, you can see how much our neighbours house looks in to our yard. I am hoping to screen this more over the years with some taller trees.

Looking back up the garden to the back of our home. The Prickly William and small gum you can see to the front of this photo are now gone. We have put fruit trees in their place.

This garden is in the centre, at the back of our block. The Lemon Scented Tea Tree has been moved to our front yard now and we took down the small gumtree growing to the left of the photo. The smooth barked gum to the right is a Lemon Scented Eucalyptus. You can just see our second shed in the bottom left of the yard too.

A large Peppercorn tree sits  near the big shed. Can you see the Nectarine tucked in behind it, fighting for light?

Another view of the clothes line. The Potato Vine along the fence and Geraniums spilling out of a cluster of pots that were left here. There are some Roses there too. The Gumtrees to the left of this picture have been removed now too, I'm sad to say.

Just another view towards the shed from the clothes line.

The smaller shed a bit further down from the clothesline.

The retaining wall holding up the garden near the big shed. The Campion was growing lovely when we arrived here.

Down in behind the shed and right at the fenceline. The neighbours bamboo encroaching on our side. A Lilly Pilly and another unknown plant are growing here.

Just another shot looking back up the yard.

The East side raised bed running up the side of the house.

Another view of the middle garden containing an assortment of plants and many Alpine Strawberries.

Up the side path and under the rose bushes is another raised bed containing Fishbone Ferns. The potted Geranium has been moved from here.

Base of the climbing Rose.

Overhead view of the Rose.

More ferns.

Climbing Hibbertia Scandens was in need of a good trim.

Blackberry?

Ferns, ferns, ferns.

The third tank, covered with a potato vine.

Native Violets at the base of the tank.

Quite overgrown in this garden bed.

The next four photos are of our pond. Can you see it there? It is covered in Azolla and the surrounding plants were all cascading into the water.

These next five photos are of the plants that were surrounding the pond. All quite overgrown. Can you see the tree sitting on top of the fence in the third photo? That fence is barely holding up.

So that is what our garden looked like when we moved here 9 months ago. For some reason I never photographed the front garden. I have no idea how i missed it, or maybe I am yet to come across the photos. I hope to bring you updates on our garden as it grows and changes over the years we live here. It has changed so much already.
